Initial Counseling Session

Objectives
  • Review the key domains of comprehensive cancer risk counseling 
  • Participate in one on one/small group role play to practice essential elements of the initial cancer risk counseling session
  • Engage in small group discussion and constructive feedback related to role play activities 

Workshop 4
Case-based Genetic Cancer Risk Assessment Gastrointestinal Cancers

Objectives
  • Review structure, content and salient details of case history
  • Identify what additional information and resources needed for GCRA
  • Apply mutation probability and empiric colorectal cancer risk models
  • Generate and discuss rationale for differential diagnoses
  • Generate testing strategies, including tumor analysis (when applicable) 
  • Interpret genetic test results (when applicable)
  • Define management options for all risk levels
  • Identify follow up issues for patient and family

Pedigree Documentation and Assessment

  • Review the standardized symbols, structure and process of taking a pedigree
  • Practice documenting family histories for cancer in the form of a pedigree
  • Assess personal and family history to develop a differential diagnosis
