This presentation will explore the emotional, relational, and logistical challenges faced by individuals living with hereditary cancer risk. Based on my recent article, Addressing the Psychosocial Gap in Hereditary Cancer Care: The Case for Genetic Social Work, the talk will highlight how genetic test results affect far more than medical decision-making. Patients are often navigating anxiety, guilt, uncertainty, family communication, reproductive decisions, surveillance fatigue, and the experience of living "between sick and healthy."

The presentation will introduce genetic social work interventions as an emerging model of care that bridges clinical genetics and psychosocial support. Topics will include individual counseling, care coordination, peer support, and family testing assistance, with attention to how these interventions can reduce overwhelm and improve patient-centered care. The goal is to demonstrate why psychosocial support is not an add-on, but an essential part of comprehensive hereditary cancer care.
